S.W.W.A.G. was established in August 2007 and is dedicated to opposing the construction of a windfarm in Wyverstone.

The primary objectives of the S.W.W.A.G. committee are to:

?         Raise awareness about the proposal

?         Research all the relevant issues so you know the facts

?         Keep you informed about what is happening, when and how it effects you

?         Mobilise support in rejecting the proposal

?         Ensure your voice is heard

To achieve this we have formed a membership scheme to allow you to register your support to S.W.W.A.G .  Please go to the 'what can you do?' to join our membership, register your protest about this windfarm and ensure your voice is heard.

We object to this proposal for the following reasons:

1) It is a green field site

2) It is only 500m from residential houses

3) The size of the turbines is too large and they will pollute the skyline

4) On-shore windfarms are not an efficient source of energy

5) Wind turbines could be the cause of health problems

6) Rural tranquility will be severely compromised

7) The site will interfere with a close-by bridle path

8) The construction of the wind turbines will have an adverse effect on wildlife

9) Value of property could be reduced

10) Having built two wind turbines more could follow and set a precedent for further developments in rural areas

11) Profiteering

S.W.W.A.G. is not against renewable energy and understands the threat of climate change.  The group encourages the government and individuals to place great emphasis on both reducing energy usage and increasing energy efficiency.  S.W.W.A.G. recognises that wind energy is a source of renewable energy and therefore S.W.W.A.G. supports offshore wind farms because, they:

·        are more efficient

·        can be built in greater numbers

·        take advantage of the stronger and consistent offshore winds

·        avoid the negative impact of onshore wind farms on people and the surrounding countryside.
